San Diego - Part Two

Saturday we packed the kids up and headed to the zoo. As a special treat, Grandma Linda and Aunt Annette met us there and were able to spend the day with us!

And we're off! Nikos and Kira wait patiently for the rest of us to catch up.

Maile and Kira inspect the dinosaur bone exhibit. Maile was right in her element, since she wants to be a palaeontologist when she grows up.

Nikos was a big fan of the gorilla sculptures.

The San Diego Zoo has a huge elephant exhibit and we got a good closeup of a lot of the elephants.

Ha - did I fool you with these? No children were squished in these pictures...I think Nikos may have a future in acting though.

We ended the day at the petting zoo.

Sunday we spent some time at the beautiful beach in Coronado. Ahh, to be rich.

Taki, Mason and Nikos

Yeah, there's a crab in that grubby little hand (thanks Uncle Vernie) and it is coming straight for me! Great.

Olive enjoys some freedom.

Nikos enjoys his $6 pineapple juice at the Hotel Del beachside bar while we enjoy our $14 mojitos.

The hotel had a cool Dr. Seuss exhibit on loan to them and we enjoyed looking at the different sculptures.

One of Niko's favorite books right now is Green Eggs & Ham, so we captured his picture with Sam I Am.

We also learned an interesting fact about that book - the story was born out of a $50 wager between Ted (Geisel) and his publisher, that Ted couldn't write a cogent, entertaining book using only 50 different words. The result was was a 62-page volume of composed of 49 one-syllable words - the fiftieth is "anywhere."

Sunday night we met up with some friends from elementary school (in PA!) Kelly and her sister Molly now live in San Diego, so we took the opportunity to join them and Kelly's family for dinner at Buca di Beppo. We had a great time catching up and hope to get together again!
