Discover This!

Saturday morning we took advantage of our reciprocal Habitot benefits and headed across the bay to the Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito.

Taki and Nikos pose before going into the museum.

The museum is really big, it is housed on Fort Baker (an old army base) and a bunch of the buildings are now dedicated to the kids museum, as well as considerable outdoor space. Here is Nikos exploring the outdoor TotSpot area of the museum.

Realizing it was practically freezing out (for the Bay Area anyway), I decided to be a good mother and dress him more appropriately for outdoor playtime.

Exploring the gopher tunnel.

Turning the wheel to make the lizard move.

Bzzzz (insert standard lame video commentary apology here.)

Playing with sticks in the fort.

Chalkboard time. It was nice to watch Nikos draw on a chalkboard without having to say "not on the wall, not on the wall."

We stepped out of the cold for some indoor play. Nikos enjoyed pairing up the different shapes that fit through the appropriate slots in the table.

Back outside for some music time.

Working on the construction site. Real men aren't bothered by pink shovels.

Back inside at another exhibit, Nikos shows off his stair climbing skills. I'll apologize now for the fact that my belly is costarring in this video, at least I kept my usual lame commentary to a minimum.

After a great morning at the museum we decided we would make Nikos delay his nap even further by enjoying lunch in Sausalito at a little diner. After lunch we decided that we take Nikos for his first real ice cream at Lappert's. He was a big fan so I think we'll hit it up again in Kauai in a few weeks!

That museum looks really neat. I'd like to go along sometime!
We'll join you at Lappert's.

How many kids learn to walk up a flight of stairs before walking on flat ground?

We also have video of him climbing a rope ladder.

Lappert's ice cream...yum! Nikos outfit is too cute. Remember how excited you were in his walking video, because when he is running all over the place, it's not as cute. :)

Looks like fun! Love his cute little outfit. The bee costume freaks me out a little, though. He either looks like he's being attacked by a giant bumblebee or he IS a giant bumblebee...either way is a little frightening for a bee-phobe like me. :o)

I was just waiting for him to stand up and push that little girl off that statue while he was 'bee-boy'...

So far I've seen a dinosaur, a pumpkin (I think), a turkey and now a bee. Am I missing any? It's like Halloween everyday at the Romios house.

Did that kid escape from Shawshank?
